Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a structured way of considering relevant knowledge, skills or achievement gained before a learner enters a particular Pro Class qualification process. RPL applies only where the relevant qualification design and assessment requirements allow it.
When RPL may apply
- ✓
Where the qualification specification allows prior learning or achievement to be considered.
- ✓
Where the prior learning is relevant to the specific outcomes or assessment criteria being considered.
- ✓
Where recognition would not bypass a mandatory assessment, practical demonstration, regulatory condition or certification requirement that must still be completed.
Evidence for recognition
Evidence may include previous qualifications, assessed work, professional records or other reliable material that demonstrates the relevant learning. The exact evidence needed depends on the qualification and the claim being made.
Decision principles
RPL decisions should be consistent, documented and based on the applicable Pro Class qualification requirements. Where an approved centre supports the RPL process, it must act within its approved scope and follow Pro Class requirements.
What RPL does not do
RPL does not by itself create a Pro Class certificate, professional certification or guaranteed exemption. Any recognition must remain within the rules of the applicable qualification.
